In this extract young people are being represented to be intimidating as the clip begins with hooded boys who are positioned outside the shop standing in a group. they are shouting and shoving each other about which shows them to be loud and angry. young people seem to be dominating the streets as groups of young people are seen in the background. the fact that the boys are hooded shows them to be antisocial and
creates an intimidating view of them. they approach the boy who is alone, walking down the street and block him from getting passed.
The fact that they all act together shows a bondage within the group, however, there are obvious hierarchies within the group which is shown via the close up of one group member who looks angry at the boy, he accuses the boy, 'what have you got to say for yourself?' this immediately shows the group member to be aggressive through his tone of voice and in control . this group member comes face to face with the boy and looks down at him (which is shown through the high a
ngle camera shot). the group member then starts to shove the boy about which adds to the intimidating and aggressive approach.
First impressions of the gang are immediately shown to be aggressive and physical by the way they treat each other. they argue and intimidate each other, and do not show respect which suggests youths to be arrogant and insensitive. The boy who is being victimised is presented to be hard working. At the beginning of the clip, he is shown in his sports class where he is presented to be happy and enjoying himself as he smiles throughout. the teacher congratulates him on his work which shows that he is a good member of the class. the boy is also shown to be committed to his girlfriend as he calls her straight after the class, this shows him to be dedicated. he also says 'I love you' whilst throwing his hands in the air which represents happiness and commitment. He clearly tries hard at his sport and is pleased with his session, 'He actually smiled at me this time.' this shows a respect and an effort the boy makes toward his teacher. the fact that he wears his school uniform shows that he is committed to school and attends regularly.
there is a close up, reaction shot which captures the boy's facial expressing changing from a smile to an immediate solomn expression as he looks at the group infront of him. this syblolises the group to be perhaps frightening and daunting to the boy.
